Corinne Scicluna is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Malta, Faculty of Health Sciences (Nursing Department). She was the coordinator of the first Master’s degree in specialist pathways, including the skin and wound care pathway (2022-2025). She was the first Tissue Viability Specialist Nurse who led this service in Malta. Corinne is president and founder of the Maltese Association of Skin and Wound Care and is an elected council member of the European Wound Management Association (EWMA). She represents Malta on the International Diabetic Foot Group, the teacher’s network of EWMA, the Commonwealth Wound Care Resource Alliance and is a European member of the World Union of Wound Healing Societies. Corinne was a Senior Nursing Manager at Mater Dei Hospital and managed the Child and Development Assessment Unit at St Luke’s Hospital. She was the former chair of the Foundation of Nurse Specialists Europe (FoNSE) and the International Skin Care Nursing Group. She was also the president of the Nurses’ Association of Malta prior to its amalgamation with the Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses (MUMN) and was the chair of the Commonwealth Nursing Federation for the European Region between 2002-2007. Corinne holds a Diploma and Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Malta, a Master of Science in Wound Healing and Tissue Repair from Cardiff University, UK, and earned her Ph.D. from Bournemouth University, UK, in 2017. A pioneer in nursing conferences in Malta, Corinne has actively shared her expertise and research throughout her career, taking on diverse roles to promote knowledge exchange. Since graduating in 1996, she has participated in over 200 educational events and conferences, both at the national and international level, making direct contributions to 100 of these by organizing, presenting, or chairing sessions. Her interests include: skin and wound care, advanced nursing practice and legal and professional preparation of the nurse with a particular interest in the specialist nurse’s role from a national policy perspective.
