Dear wound family and friends. Let me welcome you back to the IWII & 6TH GLOBAL WOUND CONFERENCE 2024, organised by the Malaysian Society of Wound Care Professionals MSWCP. It has been truly a great journey from the very beginning for the past 26 years. Wound Care was at its infancy. We used to manage diabetic foot ulcers with the two nurses trained in diabetic foot.
Subsequently, I started the Wound Care Unit in the Department of Internal Medicine on the 8th of April 2013. We started with 2725 patients and have grown tremendously. There were approximately 26115 patients last year alone. The Wound Care Unit is now the largest centre in Malaysia.
In addition, the Malaysian Society of Wound Care Professionals MSWCP also has flourished since 2011. We now have coordinators in all states and have organised 15 international conferences and many local conferences such as in the north.central, South, Sarawak and Sabah. The key point is we usually sponsor all the delegates in the local conferences. Meanwhile, we sponsor at least 300 delegates in the global meeting.
The global meeting is a hybrud meeting and we have sponsored people from all over the world. Wound Healing with passion is our theme and we are a non governmental organisation spearheading advance wound management in Malaysia. We have performed 5500 over free dressings for the B40. We also have given wound care kits with advanced wound dressings worth more than 2 million ringgit since the formation of the MSWCP.
Our secretary Dr. Nazni Wasi Ahmad and myself were finally awarded The World Health Organisation, Dr. Lee Jon Wok Memorial award in Public Health in 2018 for our work on maggot therapy during the general assembly of the World Health Organisation. The award is a huge recognition of the work that we have passionately put in to expand wound management to enable our patients to get the best comprehensive standard of care that we can offer.
We now spearhead education in terms of the Certificate Programme known as The Certificate in Clinical Wound Care.the Post grad Diploma in Wound Management and next year the Masters in Wound Care.
Subsequently, we won the Presidency of the World Union of Wound Healing Societies and the next silver jubilee of the WUWHS will be held in the picturesque city of Kuala Lumpur at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from the 23rd to the 27th of September 2026.
This year we have more than 1000 over delegates from around the globe and 2000 delegates online. We have 80 booths and 120 e-posters in this conference.
In addition, let me also thank YB Datuk Seri Haji Dr. Dzulkefly bin Ahmad, Minister of Health Malaysia, YBh. Dato Sri Suriani binti Dato Ahmad, Secretary General of Health, YBhg. Datuk Dr. Muhammad Radzi bin Abu Hassan, Director General of Health Malaysia, YBhg Dato Indera Dr. Nor Azimi binti Yunus, Deputy Director General (Medical), MOH, the Wound Care Unit, Hospital Kuala Lumpur, the Malaysian Society of Wound Care Professionals MSWCP, the International Wound Infection Institute, the Ministry of Health Malaysia, the Corporate Communications Unit Hospital Kuala Lumpur for the overwhelming support all these years and Tan Sri Dato' Seri Dr. Jeffrey Cheah, the founder and chairman of Sunway Group.
